What I Did On My Summer Vacation
- stayed up all night in anticipation of leaving at 1:30 a.m. for the airport
- sat around in airports longer than riding in the planes
- rode in a dusty truck on a dusty road for 3 ½ hours, but we didn't get wet as I predicted, thus leading the group to use me as official weather forecaster
- ate beans and rice
- wondered, "where did the lake go?"
- @physically push-started a 2 ton truck (more than once)
- learned a little more Creole
- was never so happy to have indoor plumbing
- *managed to break said indoor plumbing by falling out of the shower
- managed to sprain my wrist falling out of the shower
- was threatened to be forced to reenact falling out or the shower because it would have made such a funny picture
- ate beans and rice
- watched a spectacular light show only God could produce
- #carried and lifted more concrete block than anyone should ever have to
- assisted in wiring a roof the "Haitian way"
- got really, really tired every day
- listened to the locals worshipping every evening across the street- I wish now I would have ventured to go join with them
- listened to Clay talk in his sleep
- listened to Ron and Mat play guitar and sing- we got to sing along, too
- drank something called Limonade- it was good but we ran out
- watched a medical team work harder than anyone should ever have to- they saw 400 patients in 2 ½ days
- broke into tears when I could see us nearing the end of the roofing project- an agonizing 14 hour day
- ate beans and rice
- was sorry our truck driver fell and broke his foot, but was glad to ride in a bus to Port-au-Prince instead of the dusty truck
- was happy to leave Haiti, but sorry to leave new friends
- was excited, like the rest of our group, to get back to the USA and eat American food- I went to Sbarro (American food?)
- was frustrated to have to spend an extra night on the trip, in Cleveland
- used up one roll of film
- watched Tony say goodbye to an important suitcase (thanks Continental)
- said hello to Toni and Josh- nice to be home
- home again- mowed the yard
- dreamed of returning to Haiti- the roof is finished, but so much more to do
